What are Industrial Fasteners?
Industrial fasteners are devices or tools, which can be used to connect or join two or more components together in an industrial and commercial setup. These fasteners can be permanent or temporary depending on the application where they are affixed. When temporary parts are removed they don’t put any pressure or jeopardize the existing system. Most of these fasteners are mechanical joints that help in the safe and reliable fastening of joints. A fastener plays an important role in our day-to-day lives from, furniture to vehicles. There are different types of fasteners, which include bolts, screws, nuts, washers, and so on.
Nut Bolt Metric Sizes and International Standards
Metric bolts and nuts are essential fasteners in the critical assembly of different equipment and machinery parts. These bolt and nuts are manufactured following standards set by ISO and the German institution of DIN. The bolts and nuts are referred to as M sizes eg. M3, M12, etc. The sizes of these components are specified using the diameter, pitch, and length dimensions in millimeters. Where M is the metric thread, the number on the product (e.g. 8) is the nominal diameter, and the number 1.0 is the pitch of the threaded bolt. The final length of the module is 12mm. The coarse nuts range in nominal diameter from M10 to M160 with nut sizes between 17 to 230. For fine threaded bolts, the sizes range between M16 to M125 with nut sizes between 24 to 180.
What Are Hot Forged Fasteners?
Hot forged fasteners are devices, which are heated at extreme temperatures to soften the metal and then shape it in accurate shapes. The fasteners produced from this method are very strong in comparison to machined or cast components. Hot forged fasteners exhibit superior accuracy with excellent surface tolerance. The fastener produced from this process has low hardness with higher ductility and enhanced yield strength. The metal gains its strength after it is shaped in exact sizes. The coarse grain structure breaks up and is replaced by finer grains, which gives it enhanced properties and tolerances. Fasteners can be forged in a range of sizes and shapes.
What Is Hot Dip Galvanised Bolts & Nuts?
Hot dip galvanization is amongst the oldest methods used to protect steel fasteners against corrosion. In this process bolts and nuts are immersed in tanks containing over 70 tons of 840 degrees F zinc. After keeping the items in the tank, it metallurgical bonds with the zinc and forms a protective coating on the component. Excess zinc is removed from the threads to form high-quality products. The HDG process provides two types of galvanic and corrosion protection. It acts as a semi-impermeable barrier against toxicants and corrosive media. The coating requires little to no maintenance and protects against corrosion for 50-70 years in different stress-induced environments.
